I've been on dreamwidth for a couple weeks now and just now came across this comm while searching for "linux" as an interest. Between the community name and its tagline, I couldn't resist joining!
I'd say I have grown into geekiness over the past decade. Ten years ago I didn't have a clue how to use any word processing program, email, etc. Fast forward to one month ago, when I decided to save my dying laptop by installing Ubuntu Hardy and learned enough to use the terminal to make my EVDO internet card functional. I know it's mildly geeky compared to some of the experts here, but I'm still pretty pleased with myself!
My geek tendencies definitely extend to my viewing material as well. Doctor Who is probably my favorite television show ever. (Plus, I'm delighted to see there are some Dollhouse fans here!)
There was a quote an old episode of Numb3rs that I often think of when describing myself... I'm not easily distracted, just easily fascinated. I'm happiest when I'm learning something new. With livejournal, I learned things like HTML and CSS -- things which, a decade ago, I wouldn't have even known that I didn't know...
I can't wait to see what new things I learn from this community!
