Hello Out There

I thought I should add to the list of intro posts :)
I've been a geek for as long as I can remember, running around in a homemade Batman cape as a child, spending endless summer days lazing on the carpet in my room tapping out sci-fi stories on an old typewriter, playing Oregon Trail for hours, and so on. I am a sci-fi geek, a book geek, a music geek, and an all around dork.
I adore Star Trek, especially TOS, the classic Doctor Who, Star Wars, and all sci-fi movies from the 80s (Explorers, Starman, The Last Starfighter, Tron, WarGames, etc). Out of date cheesy special effects made me downright giddy. I have a huge book collection that covers a wide spectrum of interests from theology to rock star biographies and everything in between, including an ample collection of Star Trek and Doctor Who books.
I very much enjoy geeky decoration. In this room alone I have a Shakespeare action figure, a teddy bear dressed up as the fourth Doctor, a matchbox Enterprise, and an R2-D2 Mr. Potato head.
In high school I was in the physics club and did science and writing UIL. Now I just content myself with Discovery Channel DVDs and various documentaries. Besides mainstream science, I also have a strong interest in theories of the paranormal, especially Victorian ideas of such. That doesn't mean I really believe in those theories, but I do find them...well, as Spock would say, "fascinating."
Oh, and last year I went to Dragon*con and am still getting over just how awesome it was. I managed to have a very long conversation with Peter S. Beagle, mainly about writing A Fine and Private Place, which will always be a wonderful memory of mine.
